SUMMARY:Bürger Uni - "The green city of the future"
DESCRIPTION:The Bürger-Uni was launched in 2015 with the aim of providing interested citizens with free access to scientific topics. Since 2019\, the TUM Heilbronn Campus has been a partner of the events. Here\, emphasis is placed on making knowledge and science on current\, socially relevant topics\, which contain a strong scientific as well as socio-political relevance\, accessible to everyone. \n  \nThe event is aimed in particular at residents of Heilbronn and people of the region of all ages who are interested in scientific topics. \n  \nTopic\nThe green city of the future \n  \nLecturer\nProf. Dr. Simone Linke \n  \nRegistration\nYou can register 4 weeks in advance of the event on the website of our co-operation partner Heilbronner Stimme. \n  \nThe Green City of the Future\n  \nCities\, where many people live and sensitive infrastructures converge\, are particularly affected by the impacts of climate change. In addition to climate protection measures\, it is crucial to adapt our cities to the changing climatic conditions today – and increasingly in the future. Green infrastructure in cities plays a key role here: it can make cities resilient and adaptable to future challenges. Urban green spaces\, for example\, reduce heat stress on hot summer days\, absorb large amounts of precipitation during heavy rainfall events\, and at the same time promote biodiversity. They also increase the quality of life\, improve air quality\, and support the physical and mental health of city dwellers. \nBut despite these numerous advantages\, more and more green spaces are being lost in growing cities – whether through residential development or the expansion of transport infrastructure. In her lecture\, Simone Linke shows how cities can be planned and designed to become greener\, more resilient\, and more livable. She will shed light on obstacles and possibilities for action in urban and open space planning\, as well as the role of mobility concepts and communication between all parties involved. The challenges are great\, but one thing is clear: climate-resilient planning is not an option\, but a necessity – today’s failures will weigh heavily on tomorrow’s cities. \n
